Ana Garcia, an adjunct professor at The New School, is a New York City native and pioneering figure in hip-hop dance with over three decades of professional experience. She co-founded Full Circle Prod Inc—New York City's only nonprofit hip-hop dance theatre company—with her husband Kwikstep, generating theatre productions, training programs, and community events that center women in hip-hop culture.
Her artistic practice focuses on preserving and evolving hip-hop's technical and cultural foundations, with deep engagement in Afro Latin and Nuyorican identity. She develops international workshops for breakdancing preservation, directs documentaries like "All The Ladies Say" highlighting Bgirl experiences, and creates cross-disciplinary projects spanning dance, fashion, and media to challenge cultural narratives.
Recognition for her contributions includes:
- Joyce award for collaboration with True Skool in Milwaukee
- American Dance Festival’s National Dance Teacher Award
Beyond academia, Garcia serves as a content creator for Bronx Net TV producing the series "Kwik2Rok," launched the "ShiRoka" fashion line with Japanese graffiti artist Shiro, and has choreographed for major institutions including The New York Philharmonic Orchestra (2022's "Firebird"), The Kennedy Center, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Her educational outreach in NYC public schools and community centers establishes pathways for youth to pursue dance careers, reflecting her commitment to mentorship and community building.
