Ana Caraiani is a renowned mathematician and Professor holding the Hausdorff Chair at the University of Bonn since 2022, following her tenure as a full professor at Imperial College London (2021–2022). She is also a Max Planck Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics. Her research focuses on the Langlands program, arithmetic geometry, and their intersections with number theory and representation theory. Caraiani’s work often collaborates with leading figures like Peter Scholze, advancing foundational conjectures in the Taylor-Wiles method and expanding their applicability to higher dimensions.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science (summa cum laude), Princeton University (2007), advised by Andrew Wiles.
- PhD in Mathematics, Harvard University (2012), under Richard Taylor’s supervision.
Research Interests: Her studies bridge diverse mathematical domains, including Galois representations, modular forms, and Shimura varieties. She explores connections between number theory and geometry, contributing to the Langlands program’s expansion into higher-dimensional settings. Her recent work addresses conjectures by Calegari and Geraghty, enabling advancements in the Taylor-Wiles method.
Awards & Honors:
- Whitehead Prize (2018)
- Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (2020)
- EMS Prize (2020)
- New Horizon Prize in Mathematics (2023)
Grants & Leadership: Supported by the Royal Society as a University Research Fellow (2017–2019 and 2019–2021). Her role at the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics includes fostering collaborative research initiatives and seminars with colleagues.
Legacy: A pioneer in promoting inclusivity in mathematics, Caraiani advocates for underrepresented groups through conference leadership and mentorship. Her research group at Imperial College London notably includes higher female representation compared to field averages.
