Ana C. Brito

Dr. Ana C. Brito serves as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, and is affiliated with the Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE-UL). Her academic career centers on marine and environmental sciences with a focus on coastal and estuarine ecosystems.

Her educational background includes:

• Licenciatura in Environmental Biology from University of Lisbon (2005)
• PhD in Environmental Biology from Edinburgh Napier University (2010)

Dr. Brito's research spans biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, environmental risk assessment, aquaculture and fisheries management, and technological tools for environmental monitoring. She has made significant contributions to Estuarine Ecology and Coastal marine ecosystems, particularly in phytoplankton dynamics, Ocean Colour Remote Sensing, and Water Framework Directive implementation. Her work bridges scientific research with policy-relevant governance and environmental literacy initiatives.

Her 2024 publications demonstrate a strong focus on satellite remote sensing applications in coastal environments, addressing tidal influences on ocean colour data and bio-optical properties of the Western Iberian Coast.
