Amybeth Cohen is a Professor and Department Chair in Biological Science at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). She holds a PhD from the University of California Riverside and a BA from Skidmore College. Her research focuses on plant molecular biology, specifically regulation of photosynthetic gene expression, nuclear-chloroplast communication, and engineering the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii for food applications.
Teaching responsibilities include courses in Genetics, Principles of Gene Manipulation, Plant Cell Physiology, and Scientific Communication. Her research explores mechanisms governing chloroplast gene expression under environmental stress conditions, with emphasis on translational regulation and protein interactions critical to photosynthesis.
Publications span topics from vector-borne disease molecular analysis to chloroplast protein regulation, demonstrating interdisciplinary strengths in plant biology and molecular genetics. Active in undergraduate research mentorship within the Biological Science department at CSUF.
