Amy X. Zhang is an Assistant Professor at the Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington, leading the Social Futures Lab. Her research focuses on human-computer interaction and social computing, aiming to improve online discourse, collaboration, and safety through system design. She holds a PhD from MIT (2019) and completed a postdoc at Stanford CS before joining UW in 2020.
Education: PhD in Computer Science, MIT (2019); Postdoctoral Researcher, Stanford University (2019-2020).
Research Interests: Designing systems for safer online communities, AI governance, misinformation mitigation, and ethical technology. Current projects explore democratic AI frameworks, content moderation, and participatory policy design. Her work bridges technical innovation with societal impact, addressing challenges in social media, education, and civic engagement.
Key Contributions: Developed tools like Squadbox for group chat management, Wikum for collaborative document review, and Cocoa for multi-agent co-execution. Her research has been recognized with awards including the MIT George Sprowls Award and Belfer Fellowship.
