Amy S. Wyngaard is a Professor of French and Francophone Studies and Program Coordinator at Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences, within the Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics department. She holds a Ph.D. in French Literature from the University of Pennsylvania (1998), an M.A. (1994), and a B.A. in French and Humanities from the University of Colorado (1992).
Her research focuses on 17th- and 18th-century French literature and cultural history, with notable works including From Savage to Citizen: The Invention of the Peasant in the French Enlightenment (2004) and Bad Books: Rétif de la Bretonne, Sexuality, and Pornography (2012). She has also edited How to Do Things with Style: Essays in Honor of Joan DeJean (2021).
Wyngaard's teaching spans French Enlightenment studies, libertine fiction, women writers, Molière, and French cultural history. Recent courses include French New Wave Cinema, Gastronomie: French Food Culture, and Independent Study modules. She has served as editor of Symposium: A Quarterly Journal in Modern Literatures (2007–2020) and currently chairs multiple committees within her department. Her editorial roles and peer-review activities further highlight her engagement with academic discourse.
