Amy Pason is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. She specializes in rhetoric with a focus on democracy, public deliberation, and political discourse. Her research explores advocacy strategies of activists, intersections of the First Amendment and protest, and fostering democratic engagement through dialogue. Dr. Pason holds a Ph.D. in Rhetoric from the University of Minnesota (2010), an M.A. in Human Communication from the University of Denver (2005), and a B.A. in Communication, Psychology, and Leadership Studies from an unspecified institution (2003).
Her service roles include Chair of the Faculty Senate (2020-22), Chair of the NSHE Council of Senate Chairs (2021-22), and Chair of the Graduate Council (2024-25). She leads interdisciplinary initiatives like the Wolfpack Community Howl deliberative events and emphasizes inclusive leadership in academic governance. Her teaching covers courses such as Facilitating Difficult Discussions, Rhetoric of Dissent, and Rhetorical Criticism.
