Amy Paris Langenberg is a Professor of Religion at Eckerd College and a Visiting Professor of Women’s Studies and Buddhism at Harvard Divinity School (2025–26). Her research focuses on classical South Asian Buddhism, particularly intersections of monasticism, gender, sexuality, and the body, with additional work on contemporary Buddhist feminisms and sexual abuse in American Buddhism.

Her scholarly work includes a monograph (Birth in Buddhism: The Suffering Fetus and Female Freedom, 2017) and a collaborative study on sexual abuse in Buddhist communities (forthcoming 2026). She is currently a WSRP Research Associate, working on an anthology of translations from the Mahasanghika-Lokottaravada Bhikshuni-vinaya, documenting premodern Buddhist monastic women’s lives.
