Dr. Amy Nichols-Belo is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Global Health Studies, and Chair of the International and Global Studies Department at Mercer University. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Virginia, an MS in Science and Technology Studies from Virginia Tech, and a BA in History and International Affairs from James Madison University.
Her research focuses on medical anthropology, global health, witchcraft belief systems in Mwanza, Tanzania, and gender studies. She leads Spring Break study tours to Cuba’s healthcare system and Mercer On Mission programs in Tanzania and South Africa. Dr. Nichols-Belo teaches courses such as Medical Anthropology, Global Health Challenges, and Qualitative Health Research.
Her publications include analyses of healing knowledge in Tanzania and reviews of works on witchcraft in East Africa. She has extensive teaching experience at institutions like Randolph-Macon College and Virginia Commonwealth University, where she also contributed to social health studies research.
