Amy Mullin is a Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park. She holds a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Cruz (1985), a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder (1991), and conducted postdoctoral research at Columbia University (1992). Her research focuses on chemical dynamics of highly excited molecules, collisional energy transfer, and transient optical probing. She has served as ADVANCE Professor (2015–2019) and has held editorial roles at the ACS Journal of Physical Chemistry since 2015.
Her honors include Fellowships from the Optical Society of America (2018), American Physical Society (2009), and AAAS (2006), along with prestigious awards like the Camille Dreyfus Teacher Scholar Award (1999) and NSF CAREER Award (1996). She has mentored 18 PhD students, 35 undergraduates, and 7 postdoctoral fellows. Her work employs ultrafast laser spectroscopy to study molecular collisions in extreme rotational states, leveraging techniques like the optical centrifuge and trajectory calculations.
Recent contributions include studies on rotational energy transfer in CO molecules and the dynamics of superrotors. She actively participates in professional societies such as APS and NOBCChE, and has contributed to initiatives like the Telluride Science Research Center and the Beckman Scholar Program.
