Amy Morgan, Ph.D., LMFT, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Science at the University of Maryland's School of Public Health. Her work focuses on families impacted by incarceration, resilience processes, and mental health policy advocacy. She holds licenses in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington states as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Educated at Virginia Tech (Ph.D. 2020), UNH (M.S. 2012), and UNH (B.A. 2010), her research bridges clinical practice with systemic policy analysis. She teaches courses on family theories, mental health, and clinical supervision.
Dr. Morgan's research emphasizes marginalized populations affected by incarceration, including economic minorities and undocumented citizens. She uses mixed methods to study family resilience, policy impacts, and reentry challenges. Her recent work explores fathering during crises like the pandemic and tribal enrollment barriers for fostered/adopted Indigenous adults. She has been awarded the Doris Sands Teaching Award and Family Process Institute New Writers Fellowship.
Her professional service includes legislative policy leadership for AAMFT and the National Council for Behavioral Health. She co-founded Applied Research Services, providing bias-free training to law enforcement through collaborations with Prince George's County Police Department. Her writing appears in Journal of Child and Family Studies, Psychology of Men & Masculinities, and Journal of Offender Rehabilitation.
