Amy M. Weeks is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in chemical biology and proteomics. Her research focuses on developing enzymatic tools for spatially- and temporally-resolved mapping of post-translational modifications (PTMs) using mass spectrometry-based proteomics.
- Education: B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ph.D. from the University of California Berkeley, and postdoctoral training at the University of California San Francisco.
Her work addresses critical challenges in understanding the functional roles of PTMs, such as proteolysis and phosphorylation, in biological regulation. By repurposing native enzymes as chemical biology tools, her lab aims to bridge the gap between spatial proteome labeling and proteome-wide PTM identification, with applications in disease mechanisms including cancer, neurodegeneration, and viral infections.
Research projects include:
- Chemoenzymatic tools for spatially-resolved proteolysis mapping
- Proximity-dependent capture of the phosphoproteome
- Elucidating biological functions of rare PTMs
Her expertise combines protein engineering, mechanistic enzymology, and organic chemistry to advance understanding of cellular signaling dynamics.
