Amy Langenkamp

Amy Langenkamp is an Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame, with affiliations in multiple research centers including the Center for Research on Educational Opportunity (CREO), the Institute for Educational Initiatives (IEI), the Institute for Latino Studies, and the Program for Interdisciplinary Education Research (NDPIER). Her research focuses on education, race/ethnicity, immigration, and life course transitions, with a particular emphasis on mechanisms of inequality in educational institutions and intergenerational transmission of advantage/disadvantage.

Her work examines how social class, race/ethnicity, and school contexts shape educational pathways, including transitions to postsecondary education. Current projects investigate the impact of resegregation, new immigrant destinations, and school composition on student achievement. Langenkamp’s scholarship bridges sociological theory with empirical analysis, addressing topics such as academic performance disparities, college enrollment outcomes, and family influences on educational trajectories.

Recent articles highlight themes like racial inequality in course placements, Latinx educational attainment disparities, and the role of school mobility in academic adjustment. Her research underscores the intersection of structural factors (e.g., socioeconomic status) with individual and familial dynamics in shaping educational outcomes.

Langenkamp currently directs the CREO and is actively engaged in projects that aim to inform policy and practice in educational equity. She collaborates across disciplines to address systemic barriers in education, particularly for marginalized populations.
