Amy Hoover

Amy Hoover is a Full Professor in the Department of Aviation at Central Washington University (CWU). With over 7,000 flight hours and extensive experience in flight instruction, curriculum development, and aviation administration, she has held roles including Department Chair (2007–2015), FAA 141 flight school operator, and owner of her own flight school. Her career spans general aviation, corporate aviation, and aviation education at community colleges and universities.

Dr. Hoover’s research focuses on cognitive processing models in aviation, task prioritization training, and educational methodologies. She has developed curricula for mountain flying and pioneered programs like the Young Women’s Aviation, Construction, and Engineering Academy. Her work emphasizes improving pilot training effectiveness through applied cognitive science and instructional design.

Her awards include the 2022 National Flight Instructor of the Year and the 1994 Amelia Earhart Scholarship. Hoover has contributed to over 20 years of full-time teaching and curriculum innovation at CWU, alongside leadership roles in aviation organizations.
