Dr Amy Gray-Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Archaeology and Programme Leader for the MA Archaeology of Death and Memory at the University of Chester. She has held roles such as Deputy Head of Department and co-directs research into early Holocene wetland landscapes and hunter-gatherer communities of Britain. Her teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate courses like the Archaeology of Human Remains and Experiential Learning, with a focus on employability initiatives.
- Education: PhD Archaeology (University of Manchester, 2007–2011), MSc Osteology (University of Bradford, 1999–2001), BSc Archaeology (University College London, 1996–1999).
- Non-academic experience: Human Osteologist at Museum of London Archaeology (2003–2007).
Her research interests center on funerary archaeology, human osteology, and Mesolithic remains, particularly disarticulated human bones. She explores taphonomic processes and hunter-gatherer mortuary practices in northwest Europe. Key projects include funded work on early prehistoric deathways and community engagement initiatives.
