Amy Forbes is a Professor of History, Chair of the History Department, and Co-director of Medical Humanities at Millsaps College. Her research focuses on cultural and medical history in France and the Francophone Lower Mississippi Valley, including studies on French political satire, medical disputes in New Orleans, and sickle cell disease in Mississippi. She is currently researching the history of Mississippi’s former state mental hospital on the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus.

Research & Teaching: Her work examines political agency, the politics of medicine, and social scandals in healthcare. She teaches courses in European history, medical history, cultural history, freshman writing seminars, and senior research seminars. This summer, she will lead Millsaps’ study abroad program in London.

Engagement: As History Department Chair, she oversees initiatives like History Club trivia nights, movie screenings, and student trips. She emphasizes the importance of historical study in understanding modern complexities.
