Her research examines Indigenous adaptations and representations in literature and film.
Dr. Fatzinger earned her Ph.D. in American Indian Studies from the University of Arizona in 2008. Her work critically analyzes cultural content, historical narratives, and media depictions of Indigenous peoples, particularly in adaptations of classic texts like Laura Ingalls Wilder’s novels and television series such as Little House on the Prairie.
Her publications explore themes such as cultural authenticity in film adaptations, the intersection of Indigenous history and media, and the representation of Indigenous voices in mainstream literature and cinema. She emphasizes the importance of preserving cultural context in storytelling and challenges stereotypical portrayals of Native Americans in media.
As part of her role with the American Indian Film Gallery, she curates and promotes Indigenous narratives, ensuring their visibility and academic accessibility. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges literature, film studies, and cultural anthropology to advance understanding of Indigenous perspectives.
