Amy Cordileone is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Educational Theatre at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. She holds a B.A. in Theatre from the University of California, Irvine, and both an M.A. and Ph.D. from NYU’s Program in Educational Theatre. Her doctoral research focused on drama education in northern Uganda, culminating in her 2010 dissertation Remarkable Disruptions: Dialogues on Teaching and Learning through Drama in Northern Uganda.
Her roles include administrator, faculty member, and student-teaching supervisor at NYU Steinhardt. She is actively involved in initiatives such as the Shakespeare Initiative and Theatrix!, directing productions like Two Noble Kinsmen and choreographing Alice: The Lookingglass Girl. She also curates festivals like Instant Gratification: A 24-Hour Play Festival and collaborates on costume design for Educational Theatre productions.
Amy founded The Teacher Exchange in 2006 through Invisible Children and NYU, fostering cross-cultural educational partnerships between international and Ugandan educators. Her research interests emphasize drama’s role in curriculum development, social justice, and global theatre pedagogy. She has published on Ugandan educational contexts and aesthetics in theatre.
Her work extends to non-governmental organizations, particularly in Uganda and the U.S., and she maintains a focus on community-based theatre initiatives and international collaboration.
