Professor Amritpal Mudher is a leading academic in Neurosciences at the University of Southampton, holding roles as Professor of Neurosciences, Principal Investigator (Neurodegenerative diseases), Senior Fellow (HEA), UG admissions tutor, and MSc Neurosciences programme lead. His research focuses on tauopathies, Alzheimer’s disease, and the interplay between insulin resistance and neurodegeneration. He leads interdisciplinary projects using advanced biophysical techniques like Raman spectroscopy and AFM to study tau aggregation and biomarkers.
Education: DPhil (Neuroscience) from University of Oxford (1995-1998), BSc (Biomedical Sciences) from King’s College London (1992-1995).
Research Interests: Tau protein mechanisms, neurodegenerative disease pathways, diabetes-Alzheimer’s comorbidity, and biomarker development. Key projects include investigating tau propagation in Drosophila and identifying therapeutic targets via peptide inhibitors.
Grants & Collaborations: Funded by Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Diabetes UK, and EU H2020. Collaborates with institutions like the Neuroscience Institute for Life Sciences and the Interdisciplinary Dementia and Ageing Centre.
Teaching & Supervision: Supervises PhD students in Biological Sciences and teaches advanced neuroscience modules. Leads the MSc Neurosciences program.
Labs & Teams: Active in the Precision Biosciences Innovation Hub and Southampton Imaging Dementia initiatives, leveraging cutting-edge imaging and biochemical tools.
