Amrita Datta is a Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Sociology at Bielefeld University. Her research examines transnational practices of Indian female migrants in Germany, covering migration waves from the 1950s to present. She investigates motivations for migration, gender dynamics in migration patterns, and transcultural practices within immigrant communities.
Her work critiques methodological colonialism in migration research and explores themes of uncertain mobilities, gender roles in migration, and political dimensions of displacement. She is the author of 'Stories of the Indian Immigrant Communities in Germany: Why Move?' (Palgrave, 2023).
