Her research focuses on molecular imaging, osteoarthritis, inflammation, and post-traumatic osteoarthritis. She employs advanced imaging techniques to study articular cartilage and joint damage, with a particular interest in the inflammatory response and hyaluronan-mediated processes. Her work aims to identify biomarkers for predicting joint damage progression after injury.

Dr. Ruiz's recent publications demonstrate a strong trend in developing and applying novel imaging methods, particularly diffusion tensor imaging and multimodal approaches, to understand cartilage pathology. Her work spans from preclinical models to clinical applications, with a focus on osteoarthritis and joint injuries.

She is actively involved in clinical research, leading two studies: a single-center observational longitudinal study to identify predictors of progression of joint damage after non-contact ACL rupture, and a study on biological and imaging markers to understand and predict progression of joint damage after injury.
