Amita Avadhani is a Professor and Chair of the Nursing Department at the College of Public Health, Temple University. She holds dual doctoral degrees (PhD in Psychology and DNP) and is nationally certified as a Nurse Executive-Advanced (NEA-BC), Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), and Critical Care RN (CCRN).
- Education: PhD (General Psychology, Grand Canyon University), DNP (Rutgers University), MSN (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Seton Hall University), MA (Psychology, Annamalai University), BSN (Punjab University–Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research).
Her research focuses on infection prevention, nursing education, and quality of work-life in healthcare settings. Recent scholarship addresses hospital-acquired infections in the elderly through prevention strategies, reflecting her expertise in geriatric nursing and healthcare safety.
Notable awards include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Nurse Practitioner Advocate Award (2021), New Jersey Institute for Nursing Diva Award (2022), and CARES Award Honorable Mention (2023). She serves as a regional leader in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and SIGMA, with past roles in the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the New Jersey-Lung Association.
