Amel Ahmed is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, specializing in democratic studies with a focus on elections, voting systems, legislative politics, party development, and voting rights. Her research combines historical and comparative perspectives across Europe and the United States.

She is currently completing a new book titled Conflict and Cooperation: Institutional Sequencing, Legislative Politics and Democratic Stability, analyzing the long-term impact of institutional sequencing on political development.
Her research spans comparative politics, democratization, and research methodology, with publications in journals like Comparative Political Studies, Perspectives on Politics, and Democratization. She teaches courses in Comparative Politics, West European Politics, American Political Development, and Research Methods.
