Amber Dawn Shorter

Miss Amber Dawn Shorter is a Lecturer in the Department of Modern Languages at The University of Texas at Arlington. She holds a BS in Deaf Education from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (1999) and an MS in Deaf Studies/Deaf Education from Lamar University (2012). Her career includes teaching roles at the Missouri School for the Deaf, Pima Community College in Arizona, and serving as an ASL Specialist and English/ASL teacher at a Deaf School. She is a native of Oklahoma, born Deaf, and has dedicated her career to advancing Deaf education and ASL instruction.

Research Interests: Focuses on ASL pedagogy, bilingual education for Deaf communities, and integrating Deaf cultural perspectives into language acquisition. Her work emphasizes accessibility and effective communication strategies for Deaf learners.

Teaching: Currently teaches a range of ASL courses, including BEGINNING ASL I and II, INTERMEDIATE ASL I and II, and ADVANCED ASL DEPICTION. Her courses prioritize hands-on learning and cultural competency in ASL.
