Amar Flood is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington. He holds the Luther Dana Waterman Professorship (2015–2020) and the James F. Jackson Professorship (2014–2022). His research focuses on supramolecular chemistry, materials chemistry, and organic/physical chemistry, with a particular emphasis on molecular switches and macrocyclic systems.
Education: B.Sc. (1st Class Honors, 1996) and Ph.D. (2001) from the University of Otago, supervised by Professor Keith C. Gordon. Postdoctoral research at UCLA (2002–2005) under Sir Fraser Stoddart.
Research Themes: Supramolecular chemistry, molecular recognition, self-assembly, and functional materials. He leads the Flood Group, which has produced over 180 journal articles and 8 book chapters. His work includes organizing international conferences such as the 2013 ISMSC and 2017 GRC on Artificial Molecular Switches and Motors.
Awards: Multiple teaching awards, NSF CAREER Award (2009), Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar (2010), and AAAS Fellowship (2024). His research has been recognized with the Cram Lehn Pedersen Award (2011) and the ACS R.A. Glenn Award (2022).
Grants and Service: NSF CAREER Award recipient, active in conference organization, and has delivered over 200 invited/contributed talks globally.
