Amandalynne Paullada is an Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Washington. Her research focuses on computational linguistics, machine learning, and natural language processing, with a strong emphasis on ethical implications and societal impacts of these technologies. She holds a Ph.D. in Computational Linguistics from the University of Washington (2021), an M.A. in Computational Linguistics from Brandeis University (2015), and dual B.A. degrees in Linguistics and Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz (2012).
Her work bridges technical advancements with ethical considerations, including power dynamics in machine translation, data ethics in machine learning, and biomedical applications of language technology. She has been recognized with a Best Paper Award at the ML Retrospectives Workshop (NeurIPS 2020) and named a Rising Star in EECS (2020).
Paullada has taught courses such as Biomedical Applications of Language Technology and actively participates in interdisciplinary initiatives, including the Pervasive Data Ethics (PERVADE) webinar series. Her recent presentations include talks at the AMIA Annual Symposium (2023) and FAccT Doctoral Consortium (2021).
