Amanda Rose is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Missouri, with a joint appointment in the Department of Psychological Sciences. She holds roles in both departments within the College of Arts and Science. Dr. Rose earned her doctorate in developmental psychology from the University of Illinois in 1999 and has been a faculty member at the University of Missouri since 1999, advancing to Full Professor in 2012 after achieving tenure in 2005.
Her research focuses on gender dynamics, particularly promoting well-being among girls through studies on friendships and their impact on internalizing symptoms like depression. Her teaching includes courses such as the psychology of gender and women’s professional development. She is committed to mentoring underrepresented doctoral students and junior faculty. Dr. Rose has published over 60 papers, with funding from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. She received the prestigious William T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence for her educational contributions.
Her recent articles highlight themes like adolescent friendships, pandemic effects on emotional adjustment, and co-rumination’s dual role in mental health. Mentoring and grant-funded research underscore her dedication to academia’s equity and student success.
