Amalendu Misra is a Professor of International Politics at Lancaster University, part of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). His research focuses on the political dimensions of violence, with three core areas: the Politics of Sexual Violence in Armed Conflicts, the Role of Violence in the Sacred, and strategies for Managing Violence in Post-Conflict Societies. His subsidiary interests include ethno-politics, conservative nationalism, religious radicalism, and peace-building in divided societies.
With six monographs and over 30 peer-reviewed articles, his work has been translated into multiple languages including Spanish, Portuguese, and Hindi. He is a frequent commentator on global affairs for networks like Deutsche Welle, Al Jazeera, and BBC World Service, and has contributed to major media outlets like Time Magazine and Newsweek.
His research explores contemporary geopolitical challenges, such as Latin American politics, transnational crime, and U.S. foreign policy. He has successfully supervised 10 PhD students to completion, focusing on radical nationalism, religious extremism, and conflict management.
Recent publications (2023–2025) highlight trends in violence as political performance, state fragility in Central America, and U.S. policy impacts in Latin America. His work bridges academic rigor with public engagement, offering critical insights into global conflicts and governance challenges.
He participates in the Latin America Research Cluster and has led projects like The Politics of Failed States: Gangland Violence in Central America. His office hours are Mondays 11:00–13:00.
