- Earlier teaching posts: Ohio State University and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
Research Focus: Adserà’s scholarship lies at the intersection of economic demography, labour economics, and political economy. A central strand investigates fertility behaviour in low-fertility settings, examining how employment uncertainty, labour-market institutions, and macro-economic conditions shape childbearing decisions. Complementary work analyses international migration, covering immigrant fertility, language and cultural determinants of migration flows, the welfare-state magnet hypothesis, and gendered labour-market outcomes of migrants across Europe and North America. Recent studies extend to gender wage gaps among parents and the well-being of child migrants.
Scientific Distinctions:
- Fernand Braudel Fellowship, European University Institute, Florence
- Advisory Board, Wittgenstein Centre and Vienna Institute of Demography
- Advisory Board, Center of Demographic Studies, Barcelona
Grants & Collaborative Networks: While specific grant numbers are not disclosed, her sustained output in top journals and multi-country data projects (e.g., PNAS cross-national surveys, comparative European migration micro-data) indicate substantial external funding from European and North-American sources. She has co-authored extensively with scholars such as Ana Ferrer, Carles Boix, Mariola Pytliková and Nadja Milewski.
Affiliations & Service: Beyond Princeton, she is a long-standing member of the American Economic Association, Population Association of America, European Association of Labour Economists, European Population Association, and the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population, underscoring her role in shaping demographic and labour-economic research agendas on both sides of the Atlantic.
