Alyssa Griffin

Alyssa Griffin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California, Davis. Her research bridges geochemistry, biomineralization, and climate change, focusing on carbon cycling in coastal ecosystems and developing climate solutions that promote environmental justice. She previously served as a UC Davis Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow at the Bodega Marine Lab.

Dr. Griffin’s work examines carbonate sediment dissolution, blue carbon storage, coral reef biogeochemistry, and the intersection of human societies with Earth systems. She advocates for equity in geoscience through initiatives like diversifying scientific diving programs and redefining inclusive success metrics in academia. Her awards include the UC San Diego-wide Inclusive Excellence Award for advancing equity in STEM.

Her research integrates field studies, laboratory experiments, and modeling to address climate mitigation while fostering inclusive scientific communities. Current projects focus on coastal carbon dynamics, ocean acidification impacts, and equitable capacity-building strategies in geosciences.
