Alvin Roth is the Craig and Susan McCaw Professor of Economics and Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR). He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Economics at Stanford University and is an emeritus professor at Harvard University. His research focuses on market design, game theory, and kidney exchange systems. Roth has made groundbreaking contributions to the design of matching algorithms for kidney transplantation and labor markets.
Education: B.S. in Operations Research from Columbia University (1971), M.S. and Ph.D. in Operations Research from Stanford University (1973, 1974).
Roth's research interests span market design, kidney exchange, game theory, and the economics of organizations. He has pioneered the use of algorithms to optimize kidney paired donation programs, revolutionizing organ transplantation. His work bridges theory and practice, addressing real-world challenges in healthcare, education, and labor markets.
Scientific Awards: Nobel Prize in Economics (2012), Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association, Member of the National Academy of Sciences, and numerous honorary doctorates.
