Alvaro Sandroni is the E.D. Howard Professor of Political Economy at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, where he has been since 1996. He holds dual PhDs in Economics (University of Pennsylvania) and Mathematics (Brazil's Instituto de Matematica Pura e Aplicada), along with a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Pontificia Universidade Catolica (Brazil). His academic roles include serving as the Mechthild Esser Nemmers Chair and editorial board member for Economic Theory and International Journal of Game Theory.
His research focuses on behavioral science, strategic forecasting, game theory, law, and philosophy. Notable works include analyses of legal decision-making ('The Judging Game'), social choice theory ('The Leveling Axiom'), and cultural diversity ('A Theory of Strategic Uncertainty and Cultural Diversity').
Sandroni has secured grants from the National Science Foundation and the Institute of Aging. Awards include the Stanley Reiter Best Paper Award and Case Centre Awards for pedagogical contributions. His teaching spans advanced courses like Static Optimization in Economics and Economic Theory III.
His interdisciplinary work bridges economics, law, and philosophy, addressing topics like legal cycles, moral reasoning, and institutional design. He collaborates frequently with Leo Katz on legal theory, and his research emphasizes axiomatic foundations and strategic behavior in complex systems.
