Alvaro Durand-Morat is an Associate Professor and holds the L.C. Carter Endowed Chair in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at the University of Arkansas. He serves as Director of the Experiment Station and focuses on global rice economics through the Arkansas Global Rice Economic Program.

His research specializes in rice economic modeling, analyzing impacts of production technologies (hybrid rice, genetically-modified rice, Clearfield technology) and global trade policies on rice markets. Prior to joining the University of Arkansas in 2014, he worked as a policy and economic advisor for the Argentinean rice sector.

Dr. Durand-Morat teaches courses in agribusiness and political economy, including AGEC 2303: Introduction to Agribusiness and AGEC 4613: Political Economy of Agriculture and Food. He actively contributes to research and extension programs connecting agricultural policy with economic outcomes in global rice production.
