Álvaro Corredor Ochoa is a doctoral researcher at Tampere University’s Faculty of Built Environment, specializing in Urban Planning. His work focuses on sustainable urbanism, with a particular emphasis on urban sustainability indicators, transit-oriented developments, and ecological footprint reduction. He holds an MSc in Architecture from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) and has completed postgraduate studies in sustainable architecture and urban planning. Before his current role, he worked as a researcher at VTT Technical Research Centre and SYKE in Finland, and led architectural projects across Europe.
His research interests span zero energy clusters, bioclimatic urbanism, and social sustainability in urban development. He has published peer-reviewed work on urban sustainability assessment and eco-innovative business models. Álvaro also has professional experience as a shop steward with Posti Group OYj, advocating for workers’ rights and addressing immigration issues through his union activism (Teollisuusliitto).
Key funding includes the KIINKO Real Estate Education PhD Grant (2014) and Climate KIC Pioneers into Practice (2015). He has collaborated with institutions like Coventry City Council and the City of Vantaa’s Urban Planning Department. His work bridges theoretical research with practical urban policy, emphasizing climate resilience and equitable urban growth.
