Alper Uzun is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Koç University, Istanbul, Türkiye. His research focuses on atomic-level understanding of structure-activity relationships in catalytic systems for hydrocarbon conversion and porous materials for gas storage/separation.
- Education: BS/MS in Chemical Engineering (Middle East Technical University, 2001/2003), PhD (UC Davis, 2009), Postdoctoral Research (UC Berkeley, 2010).
Research Areas: Energy catalysis, materials science, and gas separation technologies. His group employs molecular modeling, machine learning, and experimental approaches to design advanced catalysts and separation materials.
Recent Trends: Integration of machine learning with computational screening to optimize ionic liquid/metal-organic framework composites for CO2 selectivity, direct air separation, and hydrogenation catalysts with atomic precision.
- Scientific Awards: TUBITAK Incentive Award (2019), TÜBA GEBİP Award (2016), Science Academy Turkey Young Scientist Award, Koç University Outstanding Teaching Award, and multiple institutional honors.
Leadership Roles: Co-Director of Koç University-TÜPRAŞ Energy Center, Associate Director of Koç University Surface Science and Technology Center, and Board Member of Turkish Catalysis Association.
