Alonzo Emery is a Lecturer on Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). Previously, they served as an Assistant Professor of Comparative Jurisprudence at Renmin University of China Law School (2010-2013) and Clinical Instructor in the Harvard Negotiation and Mediation Clinical Program (2013-2016). Emery holds a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Their expertise spans mediation, conflict resolution, and cross-cultural dialogue, with a focus on disability law and transnational academic collaboration.
Emery’s career includes launching the first law school clinic in China dedicated to disability rights and co-creating the groundbreaking Harvard-Renmin University transnational course 'Engaging China.' They have advised organizations like HSBC, Salesforce, and the U.S. Department of Justice, emphasizing global conflict management strategies. Their leadership roles include Associate Director of East Asian Legal Studies at Harvard Law School and board service with the Yale-China Association.
Awards include the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations’ Public Intellectuals Program (2014). Emery’s work integrates clinical practice, education, and policy, with a decade in China and fluency in Mandarin. Key contributions include fostering international dialogue through academic partnerships and legal clinics addressing systemic barriers for marginalized groups.
