Alma Becker was a distinguished theater director and a beloved faculty member at Skidmore College's Theater Department. She served as an artist-in-residence from 1988 until her retirement in 2013, eventually holding the title of senior artist-in-residence. Her career spanned acting, directing, and education, with notable contributions to theater in San Francisco, New York City, and the Skidmore community. She was renowned for her collaborative approach, dedication to students, and innovative productions.
Education & Early Career: Trained as an actress at the Pasadena Playhouse, Alma apprenticed in summer stock theater and later directed in the San Francisco Bay Area, earning multiple awards. She received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship for directing and a Jerome Foundation Grant.
Research & Interests: Alma’s work emphasized interdisciplinary collaboration, blending theater with cultural, political, and artistic themes.
