Allison Tegge is a Research Associate Professor at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC and in the Department of Statistics, College of Science, Virginia Tech. She also holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Basic Science Education at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Her interdisciplinary work bridges computational science, statistics, and biomedical research, particularly in liver cell signaling and systems biology.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Informatics, University of Missouri-Columbia
- M.S. in Bioinformatics, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
- B.S. in Animal Sciences, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Dr. Tegge's research focuses on computational modeling of inter-cellular signaling pathways, particularly in engineered liver tissues. She develops graph-theoretic algorithms to decipher how protein pathways mediate cellular communication and respond to environmental toxins. Her work lies at the intersection of computer science, bioengineering, and environmental health sciences.
She has been awarded the prestigious NIH F32 fellowship, recognizing her potential as an independent investigator. Her research is supported through collaborations with the Center for Systems Biology of Engineered Tissues at the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Sciences, with funding from NSF and EPA.
Scientific awards include:
- National Institutes of Health Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (F32)
- Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards
Dr. Tegge mentors several graduate and medical students, including Chris Conte, Tsering Dolkar, David Hinds, and Adele Matter. She collaborates with leading researchers such as Marco Ferreira (Virginia Tech) and Samuel McClure (Arizona State University). She is actively involved in training the next generation of interdisciplinary scientists and continues to expand her research program in computational biomedicine.
She is a key member of the Addiction Recovery Research Center at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, contributing to team-based research initiatives focused on translational biomedical discovery.
