Dr. Alleyne Broomell is an Assistant Professor at the College of Education and Allied Professions, Western Carolina University. Her research focuses on early childhood socio-cognitive development, with particular emphasis on executive function, EEG analysis, and neurocognitive development in both typically and atypically developing children. She teaches courses including PSY 271/272 Research Methods, PSY 320 Developmental Psychology of Childhood, and advanced neuropsychology courses.
Education:
- PhD in Neuroscience and Biological Psychology, Virginia Tech
- MS in Neuroscience and Biological Psychology, Virginia Tech
- BS from Emory University
Research Interests: Dr. Broomell examines how infants and children control words/actions and prefrontal cortex development. Current studies include:
- Executive function in preschoolers and physical activity
- Infant inhibitory control in high-risk populations
- Middle school emotion regulation and social behavior
Teaching & Advising: Accepting graduate students in SSP, MS, PsyD programs and undergraduate researchers. Active in training future scholars in research methods and developmental psychology.
Labs/Teams: Conducts EEG and behavioral task studies to explore executive function and social cognition development. Collaborates on projects measuring neuroconnectivity and inhibition mechanisms.
