Allen L. Husker is a Research Professor of Geophysics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), affiliated with the Seismological Laboratory and the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences. He serves as Manager of the Southern California Seismic Network (SCSN) and the Southern California Earthquake Data Center. Previously, he held a professorship at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he chaired the Seismology Department and managed Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) seismic stations in Mexico.
Education: B.S. in Physics and Comparative History of Ideas (University of Washington, 1998); M.S. in Earth Sciences (UCLA, 2003); Ph.D. (Caltech, 2008).
Research Interests:
- Regional crustal structure analysis in subduction zones and transform plate boundaries
- Slow earthquake phenomena, including tremor and slow slip events
- Seismic network monitoring and instrumentation
- Planetary seismology (e.g., lunar and Martian quakes)
Advising & Collaborations: Advises PhD students at Caltech and UNAM. Collaborates with institutions like Princeton University and the Lunar Data Archive. Former colleagues include Jennifer Jackson (Caltech) and Francesco Civilini (former postdoc).
Labs & Teams: Leads Caltech's Seismo Lab initiatives, focusing on real-time seismic monitoring and planetary comparisons. Engages in international projects like the CTBTO and lunar seismic waveform analysis.
