Dr. Allen Coates is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at East Tennessee State University's School of Humanities and Social Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and has been teaching at ETSU since 2005. As the Honors-in-Discipline director, he oversees advanced academic programs within the department.
His research explores foundational and applied aspects of ethics, including:
- Normative frameworks in Ethical Theory
- Metaphysical dimensions of Metaethics
- Cognitive aspects of Moral Psychology
- Theoretical constructs of Moral Responsibility
- Real-world applications in Applied Ethics
- Decision-making processes in Practical Reason
