Allan Vurma

Allan Vurma is a Professor of Musicology at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, specializing in vocal acoustics and singing science. With a career spanning over three decades, he holds doctoral and master's degrees from the same institution and has served in progressive roles including Senior Research Fellow (2010-2018) and Research Professor (2018-2019). His academic background includes training in radio engineering (Tallinn Polytechnical Institute) and vocal performance (Estonian Academy of Music).

Vurma's research explores voice production mechanisms, speech intelligibility in singing, and acoustic perception. He investigates how vocal techniques affect text comprehension in music performance, with recent focus on plosive-vowel interactions in reverberant environments. His work integrates experimental phonetics with performance analysis, advancing evidence-based vocal pedagogy.
