Allan Tucker

Allan Tucker is Professor of Artificial Intelligence in the Department of Computer Science at Brunel University's College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences. He heads the Intelligent Data Analysis (IDA) Group, which comprises 17 academic staff, 15 PhD students, and 4 post-docs. With 21 years of research experience in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, Professor Tucker has published 120 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers on data modeling and analysis.

Professor Tucker's research spans multiple domains including healthcare informatics, environmental modeling, and explainable AI. His work focuses on developing advanced data analysis techniques for medical applications, ecological systems, and regulatory science. He has led significant projects with Moorfields Eye Hospital on eye disease modeling, DEFRA on fish population dynamics, and numerous collaborations with Google, UCL, Royal Free Hospital, and other institutions. His current research emphasizes synthetic data generation, bias detection in AI healthcare models, and explainability frameworks for medical AI applications.

Professor Tucker has secured substantial research funding from diverse sources including EPSRC (£320k), NERC (£80k), Innovate UK Regulators' Pioneer Fund (£740k), and other projects totaling over £2 million. He has served as academic lead on multiple Pioneer Funds focused on Explainability of AI (£168k) and In-Silico Trials (£750k), and is currently CI on a Centre of Excellence for Regulatory Sciences and Innovation.

As an educator, Professor Tucker has designed and led modules including Business Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has supervised over 15 PhD students to completion and currently mentors 6 doctoral candidates working on cutting-edge AI applications in healthcare and environmental science. His research group actively collaborates with institutions worldwide including the University of Pavia, Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, and Zoological Society of London.

Professor Tucker's Intelligent Data Analysis Group maintains strong connections with both academic and industry partners. The group works closely with healthcare regulators including the Medical and Health Regulatory Authority, and has developed benchmarking frameworks for AI applications in the NHS. The IDA Group's work bridges theoretical AI research with practical applications in medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and regulatory science.
