Allan Chris Ferreon, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), Houston, Texas. He leads the Ferreon Lab, which focuses on intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and their roles in stem cell biology and neurodegenerative diseases, alongside developing single-molecule fluorescence and NMR techniques to study protein behavior.
Education: He holds a BS in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, a PhD in Structural Biology and Biophysical Chemistry from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), and completed postdoctoral training at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), where he specialized in single-molecule biophysics.
Research Interests: His lab investigates IDPs' functional and pathological roles, particularly in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, and explores protein folding mechanisms using advanced biophysical techniques. Key areas include α-synuclein, TDP-43, and NANOG’s role in pluripotency.
Awards: He has received the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NIH) and the Sealy Center Pre-Doctoral Fellowship (UTMB).
Grants: Active grants include NIH R01 GM122763 (2018-2022) studying NANOG’s role in stem cell pluripotency.
Labs/Teams: The Ferreon Lab includes members like Josephine C. Ferreon (PhD), Kyoungjae Choi (Postdoc), and Phoebe Sisoen Tsoi (Graduate Student). Former members include Marcos Guerrero-Munoz (Research Assistant Professor).
