Allan Cain is an architect and urban development specialist with extensive experience in conflict/post-conflict regions, currently serving as an Adjunct Professor at Carleton University’s School of Architecture and Urbanism. He has lectured globally at universities in China, Angola, Norway, Portugal, USA, South Africa, UK, and Canada, and is a founding director of Development Workshop. His work spans international consulting for the World Bank, UN Habitat, European Union, and African Development Bank.

His research focuses on post-conflict urban development, climate adaptation in coastal settlements, housing finance, and participatory slum upgrading. Key projects include climate change mitigation in Angola’s coastal cities (2012–2016), Mozambique’s municipal development (2008), and Angola’s National Housing Strategy (2019–2021). His publications emphasize informal economies, tenure rights, and water governance in African cities.

He has led multidisciplinary teams in projects funded by the International Development Research Centre, CIDA, and foreign ministries. His work bridges architecture, urban policy, and poverty alleviation, with a focus on Angola’s socio-environmental challenges.
