Alla Šogenova is a prominent Senior Research Fellow at Tallinn University of Technology's Department of Geology and Director for Research at SHOGenergy. With 35 years of research experience, she is recognized as a pioneer of CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage) research and teaching in Estonia. She served as President of the ENeRG network from 2022-2023 and is a member of two COST action management committees, BASRECCS board, and CO2GeoNET.
Dr. Šogenova holds a doctoral degree from the Sankt Petersburg Mining Institute (1992), where she completed her dissertation on the structure of the Rakvere phosphorite deposit. Her educational background includes a Master of Sciences in Mining Engineering-Geophysics from the Leningrad Mining Institute (1976-1981).
Her research focuses on geological storage solutions for decarbonization, with particular expertise in CO2 and hydrogen geological storage, CCUS scenarios, petrophysics, geothermal energy, and mathematical geology. Her work combines theoretical modeling with practical applications for addressing climate change challenges. She has developed innovative approaches for regional carbon management and has been instrumental in establishing CCUS education in Estonia and the Baltic region.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong concentration on practical CCUS implementation strategies across European regions, with particular emphasis on the Baltic and Mediterranean areas. Her work bridges geological science with policy development, focusing on technical screening frameworks, value chain analysis, and regional carbon management solutions that address both environmental and economic considerations.

Dr. Šogenova has supervised multiple students and served on dissertation committees, including co-supervising Master's student Martina Mariani. She has secured numerous research grants, including leadership roles in Horizon Europe projects CCUS ZEN and HERCCULES. She co-founded SHOGenergy, a research-based consulting and education company focused on carbon-neutral geo-technologies, and has organized significant events including the Baltic Carbon Forum. Her work connects academic research with industrial applications through training courses and policy recommendations for government bodies.
