Aliza Hapgood Watters

Aliza Hapgood Watters serves as Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Curriculum, Director of First-Year Seminars, and Senior Lecturer in the University Writing Program at Johns Hopkins University. She specializes in curricular innovation, emphasizing research-based education and interdisciplinary humanities-science communication. Her work includes developing initiatives like the First-Year Foundation and Foundational Abilities general education model.

Education: B.A. summa cum laude from Middlebury College, M.A. and Ph.D. in English Literature from Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar, focusing on D.H. Lawrence.

Research interests center on writing pedagogy in STEM, with notable contributions to Writing across the Curriculum programs. Collaborations with artist Taryn Simon produced seven exhibitions at major institutions including the Whitney Museum and Tate Modern, resulting in six published books.
