Aliya E. Holmes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at St. John’s University’s School of Education. She holds a PhD in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from the University at Albany, SUNY, alongside an MS and BS in related fields. Her teaching focuses on educational technology, digital learning, and STEM integration. Dr. Holmes has held administrative roles, including Associate Dean of Graduate Studies (2020–2022) and Interim Dean of the School of Education (2021), where she modernized processes during the pandemic. She is a member of the University Assessment Committee and a leader in accreditation efforts.
Her research emphasizes technology integration in education, ePortfolios, and addressing the digital divide. Notable projects include collaborations with NYC’s DOE on initiatives like Achieve Now Academy and PEAK–Brooklyn. She secured grants such as the FIPSE Making Connections Grant, exploring ePortfolios in education. Her courses include EDU 7666 (Developing Curriculum Materials for the Web) and EDU 8014 (Advanced Seminar: Literature Review).
Dr. Holmes advocates for flexible adaptability in technology use and has published widely on educational technology, professional development, and online learning. Her work bridges theory and practice, empowering educators to leverage evolving digital tools for student success.
