Alistair McCartney is a Teaching Professor in the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Antioch University Los Angeles. He is an acclaimed author of experimental novels, including The Disintegrations (2017) and The End of the World Book (2008), both published by the University of Wisconsin Press.
- The Disintegrations won the 2018 Ferro-Grumley Award for LGBTQ Fiction.
- The End of the World Book was a finalist for the PEN USA Fiction Award and Edmund White Debut Fiction Award (2009).
His cross-genre writing has appeared in journals such as Hotel, LIT, and Nat.Brut. Born in Perth, Western Australia, he resides in Los Angeles and is currently working on a novel and a book of poetics.
McCartney’s teaching philosophy emphasizes rigorous line editing, technical precision in sentence structure, and fostering dialogue through creative-critical annotations. He requires students to submit 10-20 pages of prose monthly and encourages revisions to refine their work.
