Alistair Barr is a Lecturer in Architecture at Anglia Ruskin University’s School of Engineering and the Built Environment. He holds dual roles as an academic and founder of the award-winning architectural practice Barr Gazetas, specializing in sustainability, heritage, and urbanism. His teaching focuses on architectural design studies, informed by over 30 years of practice and academic experience. Alistair’s research interests include resilient high streets, adaptive reuse of historic buildings, and environmentally conscious urban planning.
Background: A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Academician of the Academy of Urbanism, he leads design reviews for the Design Council and High Streets Task Force. His firm has won sustainability and urbanism awards, emphasizing net-zero targets and inclusive design. He co-founded the Great Streets Awards initiative.
